Holiday Traditions Return to the Central Coast

Celebrate the splendor of the holiday season in Cambria with traditions to delight the whole family. We’re deckin’ the halls all month long in Cambria – and nobody decks the halls quite like Hearst Castle! Tours of the lavishly decorated castle run throughout the entire month of December. The holidays are a magical time at “The Enchanted Hill” with the castle festively adorned with traditional 1920s and 30s-style decorations, thousands of lights, hand-made garlands, and Christmas trees decked with traditional ornaments. Ticket prices start at $25 for adults and $12 for children 5-12, kids 5 and under are free.

For an extra special treat, visit between December 19 through January 2 and experience Hearst Castle like you’ve never seen it before when you take the new Holiday Twilight Tour. You’ll see the castle dressed in full holiday splendor as you wind your way through the opulent Casa del-Mar guest house, the grand social rooms of Casa Grande, the enormous kitchen, theater, Neptune and Roman pools, and the lush gardens. You’ll hear nostalgic stories about holiday festivities of the past and docents dressed in 1930s period attire will be on hand, bringing the castle to life. Holiday Twilight Tour tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children 5-12. Reservations are strongly recommended.


Cambria Christmas Market


Cambria Christmas Market

The annual Cambria Christmas Market opens November 27 through December 23. This traditional outdoor market embraces the old German tradition with vendors selling handcrafted gifts and seasonal items, fresh baked goods, gourmet delicacies, and more. The grounds of the Cambria Pines Lodge come to life with live entertainment and a dazzling holiday light display that is guaranteed to put you in a festive mood. In keeping with German tradition, there will be grilled brats and Glühwein, a hot spiced wine, along with other tasty treats to nibble on. Bring the kids to Santa’s Village for a quick pic with jolly old St. Nick. The Cambria Christmas Market runs Wednesday through Sunday from 5 to 9 pm. Highway Closures

Highway 1 Closure

If you're heading to the Central Coast, be sure to be mindful of the stretch of Highway 1, 21 miles north of Cambria. Caltrans is busy with a major construction project to make traveling along the stunning Pacific Coast Highway a safer journey.

Highway 1 Storm Repair Along the Big Sur Coast Due to multiple active slides, State Route 1 is now closed between Ragged Pt. (SLO 72.87) and just south of Nepenthe (Mon 44).

Worried about Highway 1 Road Closures? Cambria and Hearst Castle are easily accessible from Highway 46 West from 101 South of Paso Robles or from northbound Highway 1 from the city of San Luis Obispo. Travelers from the north can easily take Highway 101 as an alternate route to Highway 1, which reduces travel time to Cambria by about 25 minutes.
