Get Cheesy in Cambria

Say, “Cheese!” It’s no surprise that this sentence always makes us smile—cheese is simply wonderful. Fortunately for traveling cheese lovers, Cambria is the perfect place to satisfy your cheesy cravings. Not only does Cambria have many wineries and tasting rooms ideal for cheese pairings, it’s home to an incredible creamery where you can taste a variety of cheeses, and even pet some goats. You’ll definitely have a gouda trip with these charming cheese stops on your itinerary!

Stepladder Creamery

Founded in 1871, this ranch has been family-owned and operated for three generations. In their words, they specialize in traditionally crafting small-scale, handmade cheeses with milk from their pasture-raised herd of very well-loved Lamancha goats. They also make artisan cow’s milk, goat’s milk and mixed milk cheeses using milk exclusively from two local, family-owned dairies. In short, yum! Also, if petting goats isn’t on your bucket list, it should be—they’re adorable.

Stepladder Creamery is a part of the California Cheese Trail, and they were recently featured in this Bring Me video about a cheese-lover’s road trip!

Indigo Moon

This Main Street eatery is all about helping you make the perfect match—between wine and cheese, that is. The cheese selection in their wine and cheese shop is one of the best in the area, and they are eager to help you discover all of the details and nuances of tastings. Don’t miss their charcuterie to round out your meal experience! You can even eat a delicious meal after your tasting—just hop over to the restaurant next door, located in one of Cambria’s oldest historical buildings.

Soto’s True Earth Market

If picnics are more your style, visit Soto’s True Earth Market, a grocery store housed in a former-meat-market-turned-historic-landmark on Main Street. Pick your favorite cheeses, some deli meats, and a bottle of local wine or beer and head to Moonstone Beach for a coastal view during your feast.
