If you're heading to the Central Coast, be sure to be mindful of the stretch of Highway 1, 21 miles north of Cambria during the late night hours. While you're sleeping – from 10 pm to 7am –Caltrans will be busy with a major construction project to make traveling along the stunning Pacific Coast Highway a safer journey.
Highway 1 between Ragged Point and Gorda will be closed overnight (10 pm to 7 am) Sunday nights through Friday mornings tentatively through the end of November.
Highway 1 will be open from Friday morning through Sunday night for weekend travelers who prefer to drive at night. Cambria is still easily accessible 24/7 for people taking Highway 46 or Highway 1 from the south, and from the north between 6 am and 6 pm. You don't have to cancel your Central Coast vacation – just be sure to plan ahead. If you are planning to travel at night, be sure to make alternate route plans to avoid any unexpected delays.
