1. The traditional Christmas Market originated in Europe.
Specifically, the first markets began in Germany and Austria in the Middle Ages, called “Weihnachtsmarkt,” celebrating the beginning of the holiday season in the town square. There are seasonal treats, singing, and dancing—and Santa Claus may even make an appearance!
2. There are more than two million lights on display.
No words can do these lights justice—you just have to see them. Lights are arranged in artistic patterns and shapes, dazzling children and adults alike. Don’t take our word for it; you can watch the video of last year’s market below.
3. The vendors sell everything from handmade crafts to baked goods, but the highlight is the traditional German fare.
Gluhwein and bratwurst in the Biergarten, sauerkraut, German potato salad—the list goes on. The best way to get the traditional Christmas Market experience is to immerse yourself in the culture and taste every European delicacy offered.
